Twin Bin Service
Twin Bin Service Begins this Autumn At present every household has green waste and recyclables collected every fortnight and black sacks collected every week. We urgently need to reduce the amount of waste which goes to landfill because it pollutes our environment and landfill tax is rising. We are making changes designed to make St Albans District one of the best councils for recycling in the country, to protect our environment and to make sure we don't waste valuable resources. We currently send 33,849 tonnes of waste to landfill sites each year. From 2012 we will face a tax of £150 for every tonne if we have not achieved 50% recycling. It's for these reasons that we will be rolling out a TWIN BIN service to the whole St Albans area between 8th September and the end of November. This means that one week your green waste and boxes of glass, tins, paper and plastic bottles will be emptied for recycling. The next week waste from your new black refuse wheeled bin will be emptied and taken to a landfill site. You will be able to dispose of kitchen waste every week in either your black refuse wheeled bin or green wheeled bin, or you may choose to always put your kitchen waste in your green wheeled bin. Black refuse wheeled bin will be delivered in London Colney during the week commencing 8th October 2008. The black refuse wheeled bin will be emptied for the FIRST time on Wednesday 22nd October. We understand that you may be worried about these changes, but whatever your concern is, we can help. More information about the TWIN BIN service arrangements can be found on our website www.recyclingforapremier.com but if you'd prefer to talk to Client Services in person just give us a call on 01727 819285. We've set a tough target for recycling in this district, but we're confident with your support and commitment to REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE, we can be recycling half our household waste.
