As part of his programme of attending heritage establishments in Hertfordshire, Howard Guard, the High Sheriff of Hertfordshire visited the de Havilland Aircraft Heritage Centre at Salisbury Hall in March this year. During his visit he was briefed on the pioneering aviation achievements of Geoffrey de Havilland, and the formation of the de Havilland World Enterprise, one of the first global manufacturing organisations.
Mr Guard met a number of the directors, members and visitors to the Centre and as well as learning about the structures of de Havilland Moths, the Mosquito and jet fighters, he was able to sample the delights of the eight seat executive cabin configuration of the four engine Heron feederliner and the discomforts of the Horsa troop carrying glider as used by the allies on D-Day, 6 June 1944.

The de Havilland Aircraft Heritage has a comprehensive collection of aircraft, aero engines, propellers, guided missiles and details of space craft. The Centre is run entirely by volunteers, and is a registered charity. We are always on the lookout for additional volunteers, not just wood and metal workers, but shop assistants, stewards and data entry clerks. If you would like to help, please visit the Centre and register your interest at the Aeroshop.
