Doorstep Recycling
The green waste wheeled bin service is the collection of garden waste plus card, cardboard, shredded paper and food waste including cooked and uncooked meat and fish waste. The guidelines below will help you decide which itmes should go in your Green Bin.
The easiest way to recycle your food waste is to keep an empty cardboard box, for example a cereal box, in the kitchen to put your waste food in as you are preparing meals. The cereal box can then be emptied into the green bin, or the whole cereal box and the food placed in the bin.
Another method would be to put a piece of newspaper on the work surface and then peel fruit or vegetables straight on to the newspaper. Any food waste can be wrapped in newspaper or kitchen towel before placing in your green bin, but please do not use plastic bags or wrappings. If you contaminate your green bin with plastic we will not be able to empty it.
The best use for unwanted cardboard is as compost but remember to clear the cardboard of any other materials, such as sellotape and staples, rip it into strips and add it to your green bin too.
