| Parish Council Report |
Investing in our Village
As we consider the new Parish Budget from April, approximately £1 per household will be raised providing around £200,000 for the year for maintaining Parish activities. We think the Parish gives probably the best value for money in local government when you think of the millions of pounds raised by St Albans District Council and the hundreds of millions raised by Herts County Council.
One of our strengths is maintenance of our valued recreational land, paddling pool and childrens' play areas... and the jewel in the Parish crown must be our dedicated ground staff. These annual costs account for over half the parish rate raised, which I believe is a very wise investment in our village. But we realise the need for further development of facilities for all groups. With a small Budget we can certainly make some impact directly whilst pressurising St Albans council to invest in badly needed larger leisure projects.
New recreation areas
The Parish has agreed to accept a 50 year lease to manage the new leisure facilities at Napsbury. These facilities will be a vital addition to our recreation facilities for the whole village. The Parish wants to extend this area, including the orchard, and adjacent land to form a new area to be known as the London Colney Park: a Trust will be sent up to advise on its management and will include users of the facilities and local residents. This exciting initiative will benefit many age groups and cater for many interests
Youth on the Agenda
The Walsingham Way play area will be developed in line with public views from local consultation. Our agents Groudwork Trust are handling plans for this and for the teen area at Shenley Lane
The portocabin changing rooms at Shenley Lane sports field need replacement; this area is well used and with a decent facility it will be even more appealing to other community groups. We expect to spend over £30,000 on a permanent replacement.
Keeping it Local
A £15,000 budget for local activity, promoting good community spirit and good fun for many will fund entertainment at the Summer Larks in the Parks; provide additions to the spectacular November Fireworks display; and extend the Christmas lights. This sum includes grants to local clubs and organisations.
