| Walk to Chantry Island |
 |
On Wednesday 20th June, following the success of last yearıs walk, the Parish Council led a group of walkers to Chantry Island in celebration of St Alban, England's proto martyr and our cityıs namesake.
Legend has it that the site in the grounds of the Pastoral Centre in Shenley Lane was the home of Alban where he sheltered the Christian Priest, subsequently taking his place and dying in the Roman City of Verulamium.
After a very wet and miserable day the sun shone as we met on the village green at 7pm and walked along Watery Lane past Long lake. We spent a short while at the remains of the Chantry Chapel and then returned to the village Green via North Lake. The evening was rounded off convivially by a visit to the Green Dragon. We intend to make this an annual event so do join us next year, sometime around the 21st June. Mary Crouch
