Tug o' War
The 4th Annual Inter-Pub Tug o' War competition took place at Larks in the Park this year. Four teams entered which was to be the best turnout yet but on the day Œnerves' got to four of the King's Head crew and they could not form a team. The event went ahead in blustery conditions on damp grass with the first pull between the White Lion and the Pear & Partridge - after an heroic struggle, the Pear & Partridge just edged it.
Next pull between the Green dragon and the White Lion turned out to be the longest battle of the day as advantage see-sawed one way then another until the White Lion were worn down, lost their footing and succumbed.
The final pull was then between last year's megastars to decide the final winner. The contest was evenly matched until with grunts, groans and beads of sweat, the superior technique of the Pear and Partridge overpowered their opponents. They retained the winner's shield for the second year running while the Green dragon retained the runner's up shield.
Many thanks to all who entered this fun competition. Thanks to the groundsmen, John, Steve and Mike for all their hard work in preparing the field and to the events committee for making the fun day possible.
