Unusual People Wanted
It is unusual to invite a complete stranger from another country and culture to your home, and yet there are international students at British universities, who would love to accept such an invitation. They want to discover the way of life in this country, to chat, sample home cooking, see places with local residents, and share their own culture. They are mostly in their 20's and 30's, come from all over the world, speak English, and many are happy to travel quite far for a short stay.
HOST was founded 20 years ago by the British Council to enhance the experience of international students in Britain and to foster mutual understanding and goodwill through invitations to private homes. We arrange day and weekend visits all year round, and many students will be hoping to enjoy Christmas with a host, rather than on a deserted campus. Our volunteer hosts are of all ages, types and conditions! If you would like to know more, or have an invitation to offer, please visit www.hostuk.org, or contact your voluntary regional organiser, Trina Golland 01 707 642091 or email richard.golland@virgin.net.
