How the years fly by! A decade has passed since the Society was formed back in 1997. In those ten years we have come from humble beginnings with our files being housed in the Public Library, where until 1997 Mrs Ros French (a teacher at Bowmansgreen School) and Mrs Jean Morley (the Librarian) first started collating information and photographs gleaned from local people, to a full Archive housed in Langleyıs Estate Agents, thanks to Mr Barrie Lloyd.
At our Annual General Meeting at The Golden Lion Hall in June, compliments of the landlord Mr. Brian Easton, we enjoyed followed by a slide show and talk by Mr Richard Lavender on the many bridges of Hertfordshire.
Our presentation at ŒThe Larks in the Parkı fun day in July was well received and we would like to thank everybody who looked in on us there, especially those who entered the photograph competition. Congratulations to Marion O'Malley who won the £10 prize with 12 correct answers from 14 photo's.
Our Annual Public Exhibition held at The Community Centre will be on Saturday/ Sunday the 6th/7th of October. Every year we hear people say "but we didnıt know it was on" so please put it on your calendar, because we would just hate you to miss it! Entry is still 'free' thanks to another most generous donation by The Parish Council, to cover the hire of the hall. Our Buffet/Dance evening takes place on Saturday the 17th of November at the same venue, all are welcome but entry is by ticket only. We look forward to seeing you there to enjoy a wonderful evening. May we take this opportunity to thank all who have supported us over the last decade as we look forward to the next.
Wally Vernon, Chairman.
