St Albans Bereavement Network
Bereavement is something everyone experiences at some time in their lives and each and every loss is a unique experience. Whilst death can have devastating effects on all of us, for children it can be particularly overwhelming.
The St Albans Bereavement Network started as a small group in 2001 with the aim of helping anyone in the St Albans City and District to have access to free bereavement support, regardless of race, creed or culture. It has grown to be a valued charity that has helped over 1000 adults and children and their families to overcome the devastating effects of losing a loved one. We now employ 3 part time staff, and have over 100 trained volunteers. Volunteers work on our telephone Helpline, visit clients at home and help with administration. Counsellors, working on a voluntary basis, provide counselling sessions at our premises and we also run three social groups in the area to help clients to take up the threads of their lives again. We additionally provide a full support service for children and their families. Children are referred to us either via our Helpline or through schools and other bodies that can see where bereavement support is needed. An additional part of our work is to help teachers and health care professionals to develop bereavement support skills.
All of our services are free to the client and we aim to attract funding from a variety of sources including statutory bodies, charitable trusts, local businesses, fundraising and donations. You can contact us on 01727 841914, or through our website: www.sabn.org.uk to help us with our work. If we can help to support you following a bereavement, phone our Helpline on 01727 841841. The line is open from 10.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. on weekdays and you can leave a message at other times. Our service is entirely confidential.
